He is the author of a book of essays, That Peculiar Affirmative: On the Social Life of Poems. He lives in Durham, NC, and has written about poetry for sites and publications that include Slate, The Kenyon Review, LitHub, The Los Angeles Review of Books, and The Poetry Foundation. Jonathan Farmer founded At Length in 2003 as a quarterly magazine dedicated to long poems and stories, and relaunched it in 2009 as an online publication with added offerings in music, art, and photography.
